Summary

Zope 2.2.5 final released, a new look for Zope

Recent News

Monday Jan. 8th Zope 2.2.5 final was released. This release contains a ton of bug fixes (we were able to close out over 60 Collector issues in the recent work on 2.2.5 / 2.3 - most went into 2.2.5). Thanks to the many folks who contributed patches, helped investigate bugs and verfied fixes.

The holiday lull gave us a chance to put some effort into something that has needed it for a long time - the Zope management interface. Zope 2.3 will see the management interface cleaned up a bit, moved to using CSS and a standard management header / footer paradigm that will make future tweaking a lot easier. While it is not the be-all end-all interface, it should be considerably more consistent and at least a step above the butt-ugly that it has been for far too long :) The revamped management UI (with some loose ends probably still undone) will debut in 2.3 alpha 2. This should be released the week of the 8th.

Action in the Fishbowl has still been pretty slow since the holidays. High on the priority list after the 2.3 release is to pay some attention to organizing the dev.zope.org site.

Documentation

by Michel Pelletier

Ok folks, back in the office after a nice, long, relaxing vacation. Pretty much everything that Amos and I are working on in the short term is all secret stuff so I can't really tell you about it. One secret project in general is coming along very nicely, with some real traction being achived on some secret aspects of a secret artifact.

There's also some secret news that we have to keep under our hats for now, but we'll be spilling those beens to you real soon now so stay tuned.

Just about the only thing around here that isn't secret is the new Documentation Section on Zope.org. Go check it out! We're trying pretty hard to improve the documentation situation, and this is where you should go to start reading about Zope or looking for answers to those questions you've had for the last two hours about DTML namespace lookups. There's still some sawdust on the floor and a few walls need painting, but other than that the section is fairly complete and should be a worthwile place for any Zope user to look when seeking documentation. See you next week!

Zope Web

The Documentation, Products, and all batch lists have been updated with a new and hopefully more useful layout. Thanks to Andrew Sawyer for making this happen.

Busy Bees

As a special note, take a look at the documentation that beehive has made for zope, covering security, zClasses, Products, and more!

The New Layout now does some interesting things if you are running Netscape 6/ Mozilla or Internet Explorer 4+. Click on the control headers to see what I mean. Soon it will be persistent, degrade to non-js browsers and handle browsers that don't handle the display: none; style.
