Zope 2.7 requires Python 2.3. But RedHat 8, 9 and Enterprise 3 only provide 2.2. So this package is made required by Zope 2.7.

This RPM merges the offical Python RPM at python.org and the RedHat Python2.2 package.

  • Patches:
    • The Simplified Chinese encoding patch and JapaneseCodecs has been removed so as to encourage the use of the cjkcodecs module .
  • Building Notes:
    • Required libtk8.3.so for building is provided by tk-8.3.x on RedHat 8/9 but tk-devel-8.3.x on RedHat Enterprise 3
    • Required libtk8.3.so for building is provided by tcl-8.3.x on all three platforms
  • Known Problems:
    • The lib64 patches inherited from the RedHat RPM have not been tested.
