to Flash or not to Flash,

There are a ton of disperate opinions about the use of Flash in web development. Making movies and animations is one thing, and we have all seen lots of animators use and abuse Flash (i.e., the ubiquitous inescapable flash intro of the early dot-com era). There are a lot of quality animators and artists making great movies, but that all stands in the realm of Content Consumption- which won't be discussed here.

To throw one important comment in regarding Java's lack of adoption, designers, who are the best equipped and suited for developing client side GUI's, often do not know where to begin with programming Java- and the road to usefull visual information manifesting on screen is a very long haul indeed.
