IPTC and EXIF reading support. A product extension to Photo Product 1.2.3

Features at a glance:

  • Allows reading of IPTC and EXIF info from JPEG and TIFF files.
  • Uses PIL as core parser to provide limited support for other image formats like BMP, TGA, TIFF, PSD, PCX, EPS.
  • Creates displays (in jpeg) for those new supported formats, when possible.

What is IPTC and EXIF metadata?

Photoshop allows you to store text metadata within your image files, by using the File / File Info command. That set of fields is IPTC/NAA compatible, and it has become a standard for the handling and storing of image metadata, specially by news agencies. On the other hand, EXIF data is information that digital cameras store in the image file, about the camera itself and its shooting values.

How does Photo support them?

After installed this product extension (a.k.a. "hotfix"), Photo reads the IPTC metadata from Photoshop's JPEG and TIFF images during upload, and stores it as properties of the created object. It also extracts Exif data whether exists, and stores is as a non-modifiable

object's attribute.

To enable the IPTC reading just check the "Use Photoshop IPTC properties set" option when adding a new Photo. Using this option for images not containing this data will just create the properties set, wich is a pretty good one for many non-news uses, as well. Exif data is always searched and grabbed when found.
